Memory Verse

Titus 2:11-12

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,

The Call of the Assembly

Reading – Psalm 8:1-4

1 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?

Celebrant: Come let us worship the triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Congregation: Amen, let us worship in spirit and in truth.

Let us Prepare to Hear the Lord

CELEBRANT:
5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[b]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7 all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.

CONGREGATION:
9 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Song – Praise to the Lord, the Almighty #301

Invocation Prayer

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost; Born of the Virgin Mary; Suffered under Pontius Pilate; Was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hades; The third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven; And sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; From thence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; The holy catholic Church; The communion of saints; The forgiveness of sins; The resurrection of the body; And the life everlasting. Amen!

Old Testament

Reading – Proverbs 8:1-4, 22-31

1 Does not wisdom call?
Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 On the heights beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
3 beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
4 “To you, O men, I call,
and my cry is to the children of man.

22 “The Lord possessed[a] me at the beginning of his work,[b]
the first of his acts of old.
23 Ages ago I was set up,
at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
24 When there were no depths I was brought forth,
when there were no springs abounding with water.
25 Before the mountains had been shaped,
before the hills, I was brought forth,
26 before he had made the earth with its fields,
or the first of the dust of the world.
27 When he established the heavens, I was there;
when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
28 when he made firm the skies above,
when he established[c] the fountains of the deep,
29 when he assigned to the sea its limit,
so that the waters might not transgress his command,
when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
30 then I was beside him, like a master workman,
and I was daily his[d] delight,
rejoicing before him always,
31 rejoicing in his inhabited world
and delighting in the children of man.

Pastoral Remarks

New Testament

Reading – Romans 5:1-5 & John 16:12-15

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we[a] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith[b] into this grace in which we stand, and we[c] rejoice[d] in hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

John 16:12-15

12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.

The Giving of Our Offerings

Song - Doxology #734

Prayer: Celebrant

Offering: Almighty and ever-blessed God, who in the abundance of Thy goodness dost ever give more than we desire or dare to ask: pour forth upon us, we beseech Thee, a spirit of thankfulness, and increase in us that most blessed grace of charity, that we may ever be more willing to give than to receive; and so rule our hearts that all we have may be used for Thy service, and we ourselves be consecrated to Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Intersession: Almighty God, who hast built Thy Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the head cornerstone: grant, we beseech Thee, that being gathered together in one by Thy Holy Spirit, Thy Church may manifest Thy power among all peoples to the glory of Thy name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the same Spirit, one God, world without end. for the whole world of mankind; remembering especially our country; all who are invested with civil authority; the Church Universal and that with which we are particularly connected; all Missionaries and Ministers of the Gospel; and all others who are seeking to do good on earth; all poor and sick and sorrowful people, (especially those for whom our prayers are asked); all little children and the youth assembled in schools and colleges; those who are in the midst of great danger or temptation; and all who are bound to us by ties of kinship or affection; the communion of saints and the unity of the Church Universal.

Illumination: Blessed Lord, who caused all holy scriptures to be written for our learning: grant us so to hear them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which You have given us

Luke 4:1-13 “The Temptation Of Christ Is Our Temptation”
Pastor Hodge

1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry. 3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.” 4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’” 5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, 6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. 7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.” 8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written,

“‘You shall worship the Lord your God,
and him only shall you serve.’”

9 And he took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here, 10 for it is written,

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
to guard you,’

11 and

“‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

12 And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 13 And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time.

Remarks and The Lord’s Prayer

Celebrant - Prayer

All: (seated) Our Father Which art in heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen!
