- How much does Jesus factor into your family’s Christmas traditions and plans? What are some ways that you could shift the focus more to Him next year?
Growth—Thinking About Spiritual Matters
Who is John, the author of the gospel of John? Share any facts you know about him. Read John 13:23 and its description of John. How does this relationship with Jesus impact the way you read his gospel?
Read John 1:1-3. What attributes of Jesus are described in this passage? Do you typically apply these characteristics to Jesus or to God the Father? Why?
In what ways is Jesus “the Word?” (1:1)
In what ways is Jesus “the light?” (1:9)
Who is described in John 1:6-8, 15? Why is so much attention given to him in all four gospels? How does a second witness add to Jesus’ credibility?
Read John 1:9-11. Why is it so difficult for the world to accept Jesus for who he really is? Have you ever struggled to receive and follow Jesus? Share your story.
Read John 1:12-13. What are the benefits of receiving and following Jesus? Which do you tend to focus on more – salvation or adoption?
Jesus became flesh. Think about him at different stages of human development. How does his humanity make it easier or harder to see His glory (1:14)? What does that tell you about your own ability to reflect God’s glory?
Which gospel’s introduction to Jesus made the biggest impact on you through this study? Why?

- Thank God for sending His one and only Son! Praise him for revealing his glory, grace, and truth through Him. Ask God to help you worship Him fully and exclusively in your life!
