Isaiah 37:1-20

37:5-7 | Isaiah responded to Hezekiah’s lament with an oracle of salvation from the Lord. He offers Hezekiah the same words of assurance that were spoken to Abraham and Joshua: Do not be afraid (Gen. 15:1; Josh. 1:9). God had a deliverance plan to defeat Rabshakeh and his forces.

37:14-20 | Hezekiah offers a good example of how to confront problems: when he was in trouble, he spread it (or laid out his case) before the LORD of hosts.

37:16 | Hezekiah called upon God who was enthroned between the cherubim (1 Sam. 4:4; 1 Chron. 13:6; Ps. 80:1). The cherubim were the two angelic figures that stood on each side of the mercy seat of the ark of the covenant (the footstool of God) in the Most Holy Place (Ex. 37:6-9). It was in answer to this prayer of King Hezekiah that the angel of the Lord put to death 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night.
