I. Godward gratitude is right.
Gratitude is what you feel; thanksgiving is what you do.
“The worst moment for an atheist is when he is really thankful and has no one to thank.”
G.K. Chesterton
“A day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe.”
Abraham Lincoln
II. Ingratitude is dangerous.
Thanklessness lurks behind sins such as homosexuality, envy, murder, and more.
Gratitude for God’s good gifts is the right response to overcoming many sinful temptations and habits.
Ingratitude sets the wrong expectations.
Ingratitude sets a wrong sense of rights.
Ingratitude sets a wrong view of dependence.
Ingratitude as a sin of omission.
III. Gratitude toward God leads to joy in God.
Gratitude is not merely a response for the gift but is also a response to what we learn about the giver.
The first is a group of exiles who are hungry.
The second is a group of exiles who are powerless.
The third is a group of exiles who are broken.
The fourth is a group of exiles who are fearful.
Thank the Lord for his steadfast love.
