Title: What We All Need to Know About God (Part 2)
Text: Genesis 1:1-31 (Bro. Larry will only read verses 1 and 2)
Date: January 19, 2025

Introduction: What is an atheist? Generally speaking, an atheist is a person who says there is no God! However, as Christians, believers, people of faith, and students of the Word of God, we proclaim emphatically there is indeed a God! “The fool (denotes one who is morally deficient) says in his heart, ‘There is no God’” (Psalm 14:1).

Last week, we began considering Genesis 1, as the beginning place for a true understanding of God. “In the beginning God” (Genesis 1:1). We noted that there are numerous facts about God that can be stated. However, our focus will be on six. We addressed the first three. Let’s review for a few moments.

We all need to know that God exists. When Moses, the Biblical writer, pulled back the curtain of history and looked as far as he could see, there was God. God is! That is the assumption with which the Bible begins.

We all need to know that God is one. In the Book of Genesis, we see a picture of one God who stands entirely alone with no other being on His level.

We all need to know that God is the Creator. The word created is the Hebrew word “bara” which means to create, or initiate something new as opposed to just “fashioning” or modifying something already in existence. Significantly, this word is only ever used of God, never of man. In Genesis 1:3-31, God created on:
— The First Day: Light (Genesis 1:3-5)
— The Second Day: Vault or Firmament (Genesis 1:6-8)
— The Third Day: Earth, Seas, Plants (Genesis 1:9-13)
— The Fourth Day: Sun, Moon, Stars (Genesis 1:14-19)
— The Fifth Day: Water, Animals, Fowls (Genesis 1:20-23)
— Sixth Day: Land, Animals, Man (Genesis 1:24-31)

Today we will consider three other facts about God. What do we need to know about God?

I. We all need to know that God is

.

II. We all need to know that God is

.

III. We all need to know that God is
