Active Faith follows God and chooses His ways over our own.

James is the half-brother of Jesus.

John 7:5
“For not even His brothers believed in Him.”

James 1:3-4
Consider it all joy, my brothers and sisters, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces [d]endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect [f]result, so that you may be [g]perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. NASB

James’ audience haven’t arrived at their moment of victory yet.

James 1:5-8
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

Wisdom activates your mind in your present circumstances to find God and follow his lead.

Wisdom looks at the unpleasantness of our current circumstances and decides to do something about it.

James 1:6
“But he must ask in faith without any doubting”

Wisdom requires a single mindedness to work.

God is single minded in his desire to bless you and give you the wisdom that you need.

God wants you to be single minded in your desire to receive blessing and get the wisdom you need.

Knowledge:

Proverbs 1:5 A wise person will hear and increase in learning, And a person of understanding will acquire wise counsel.

Honor:

Proverbs 3:35 The wise will inherit honor, But fools increase dishonor.

Better Relationships:

Proverbs 13:20 One who walks with wise people will be wise, But a companion of fools will suffer harm.

Better Families:

Proverbs 14:1 The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish tears it down with her own hands.

Overcome Sin:

Proverbs 14:16 A wise person is cautious and turns away from evil, But a fool is arrogant and careless.

Finances:

The crown of the wise is their riches, But the foolishness of fools is simply foolishness.

God is not the author of the difficult circumstances you may be facing but his is the author of your victory over them.

God’s wisdom solutions will come from His wise counsel:
Wisdom from his word
Wisdom from the guidance from the Spirit
Wisdom from other wise people

James 1:12
Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has [l]been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. NASB

James 1:17-18
17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be [q]a kind of first fruits [r]among His creatures. NASB
