First Comes Love, Then Comes…Forgiveness
Ephesians 4: 26-27, 31-32
*26“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27and do not give the devil a foothold.- 31Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 32Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
Bitterness is like that toxic lead, it gets to you slowly, quietly, but over time it will kill your marriage.
Forgiveness Mends Conflict
There are so many opportunities, day after day, in marriage that cause us to be unhappy, disappointed, resentful and bitter.
The reality is that we married sinners and that makes things really hard.
Ephesians 4:26 In your Anger do not sin; Do not let the sun go down on your anger.
Forgiveness Reveals Our Focus
Ephesians 4 verse 32 be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, (and this is the punchline), even as God in Christ forgave you.
To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable. —CS Lewis
The ability to forgive is not found in the worthiness of the person you are to forgive, it’s found in the fact that God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.
Forgiven people forgive people. —Max Lucado
if you are bitter and you are angry and you want to harm your brother, your friend, or your spouse; you are like Cain, not God.
Forgiveness Leads To Maturity
Marriage is the union of two good forgivers.
1. Confront conflict
2. Focus on your own need for forgivenss
3. Be willing to try again
These disciplines lead to a mature love in marriage
