Welcome
This week we study the Parable of the Talents as we continue our ‘Worth It” series. As you gather, share about who was one of the most talented people that you knew in school? What were they known for and what happened to them?
Worship
Read Psalm 139:1-12 as a guide to prayer. Read together and then
1. Thank God for knowing you and being with you.
2. Thank God for His presence in the darkness, and the darkness not overwhelming God.
3. Pray for the darkness and waywardness you see and experience, that God’s light and goodness would bring healing and life.
4. Pray for each other’s needs and the needs around you.
Word
Read Matthew 25:14-30.
1. In this parable, who does the master represent? The journey? The talents? The servants?
2. What happens to the two servants who doubled their investment? To the servant who hides his talent? On what basis were they rewarded?
3. Does the masters treatment of the one talent servant seem fair to you? Why or why not?
4. Why do you think Jesus thought it necessary to repeat this same kind of message so many times and in so many different ways (as in chapters 23-25)?
5. If the Master returned today, what would he say about how you’ve used what he gave you? What kind of responsibility do you feel for God for your talents?
6. Have you observed that the more you have used a talent the more talents God gave you? Describe how this happened.
7. What does sharing the Masters happiness mean to you?
Witness
What can you do this week with the talents that God gave you to prepare for his coming and proclaim his kingdom?
