CALVARY’S FOUR ROOTS
Mark 12:29-30 (NIV) “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
God First
People Are The Priority

We Get To Do This
Mark 12:30 (NIV) Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
MIND — The Intentional Direction of Your Thinking
HEALTHY THINGS GROW
1. Healthy Things Grow Strong
Psalms 1:3 (NIV)
3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither—
whatever they do prospers.
Psalms 1:1 (NIV)
1 Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers,
Our Relationships Lead To Strength
Psalms 1:2 (NIV)
2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night.
Our Thinking Leads To Strength
Psalms 52:8-9 (NIV)
8 But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
for ever and ever.
9 For what you have done I will always praise you
in the presence of your faithful people.
And I will hope in your name,
for your name is good.
Our Praise Leads To Strength
Psalms 92:1-2 (NIV)
1 It is good to praise the LORD
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
Psalms 92:12-15 (NIV)
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the LORD,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, “The LORD is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.”
Our Living Leads To Strength
Matthew 12:33 (NIV) Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.
2. Healthy Things Grow Good Fruit
Matthew 12:34 (NIV) You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.
The Fruit of Words
Matthew 12:35 (NIV) A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.
The Fruit of Service
Mark 10:42-45 (NLT) So Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers in this world lord it over their people, and officials flaunt their authority over those under them. 43 But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
1 Peter 4:10 (NLT) God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.
The Fruit of Generosity
The Fruit of Healing
Ezekiel 47:12 (NIV) Fruit trees of all kinds will grow on both banks of the river. Their leaves will not wither, nor will their fruit fail. Every month they will bear fruit, because the water from the sanctuary flows to them. Their fruit will serve for food and their leaves for healing.”
3. Healthy Things Grow Resilient
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV)
7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD,
whose confidence is in him.
8 They will be like a tree planted by the water
that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
and never fails to bear fruit.”
We find resilience when we trust in the Lord.
We find resilience in Jesus.
Isaiah 61:1-2 (NIV)
1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners,
2 to proclaim the year of the LORD’S favor
and the day of vengeance of our God,
to comfort all who mourn,
Isaiah 61:3 (NIV) and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
instead of ashes,
the oil of joy
instead of mourning,
and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
a planting of the LORD
for the display of his splendor.
Isaiah 1:30 (NIV)
30 You will be like an oak with fading leaves,
like a garden without water.
Jesus makes healthy things grow.
