Day 268 - The Fruit of the Spirit
Emily Green
“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” - Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
As we close out September, we will discuss how to increase in spiritual health. All month, we’ve talked about health in multiple areas; however, spiritual health is one of the most important places we need to be healthy. This is because our spiritual health affects everything we do.
As Pastor Ken says, we are spirits who have souls and are in bodies. Our physical bodies are not who we are; our spirits are who we are. When we’re unhealthy spiritually, the core of who we are is broken. Therefore, we need to increase in spiritual health!
Galatians 5 lists the fruit the Holy Spirit produces in our lives. One way to gauge our spiritual health is by seeing if these fruits are being produced in us. When the Holy Spirit is in complete control, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are produced. When the Holy Spirit is not in control, these attributes are not produced.
The first step to increasing in spiritual health is assessing where your spiritual health is today.
Next Steps
- Think about it: Which fruits of the Spirit are being produced in my life?
- Think about it: Which fruits of the Spirit are not being produced in my life?
- Action Step: Write out all nine of the fruits of the Spirit. Put a check mark by the ones you see regularly in your life. Circle the ones you are missing. Then, rate yourself from a scale of 1-10 for spiritual health (1 being unhealthy and 10 being perfectly healthy).
