Happy Mother’s Day

The most personal way to hear from God is through prayer.

Oh no, sir!” she replied. “I haven’t been drinking wine or anything stronger. But I am very discouraged, and I was pouring out my heart to the LORD. Don’t think I am a wicked woman! For I have been praying out of great anguish and sorrow.” “In that case,” Eli said, “go in peace! May the God of Israel grant the request you have asked of him.” “Oh, thank you, sir!” she exclaimed. Then she went back and began to eat again, and she was no longer sad. —NLT 1 Samuel 1:15–18

Once Jesus was in a certain place praying. As he finished, one of his disciples came to him and said, “Lord, teach us to pray…” —NLT Luke 11:1

Prayer is the pattern of living in addition to the teaching of Jesus.

Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. —NIV Luke 5:15–16

Prayer isn’t asking God to do our will… it’s asking God to shape and align us so we can do His will.

Declare…

“This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, —NIV Matthew 6:9

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. —NLT John 1:12

And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. —NLT Galatians 4:6–7

Surrender…

…your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. —NIV Matthew 6:10

He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying, “My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” —NLT Matthew 26:39

Ask…

Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ —NIV Matthew 6:11–13
