Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a Son is given,
and the government will be on His shoulders.
And He will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
EVERLASTING FATHER
1. The Everlasting Father is Our Creator.
We are His family.
Ephesians 3:14-15 (NIV) For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
Psalms 68:5 (NIV)
5 A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in His holy dwelling.
Psalms 68:4 (NIV)
4 Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
extol Him who rides on the clouds;
rejoice before Him—His name is the LORD.
We are His creation.
Isaiah 64:8 (NIV)
8 Yet you, LORD, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.
2. The Everlasting Father is Our Shepherd
He shepherds us.
Isaiah 40:11 (NIV)
11 He tends his flock like a shepherd:
He gathers the lambs in His arms
and carries them close to His heart;
He gently leads those that have young.
He loves us lavishly.
1 John 3:1 (NIV) See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.
He adopts us intimately.
Romans 8:14-15 (NIV) For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
Galatians 4:6-7 (NIV) Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are His child, God has made you also an heir.
He encourages us graciously.
2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 (NIV) May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and by His grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
He protects us faithfully.
Matthew 6:9 (NIV)
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
Matthew 6:13 (NIV)
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
Deuteronomy 1:30-31 (NIV) The LORD your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as He did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, 31 and in the wilderness. There you saw how the LORD your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”
3. The Everlasting Father is Our Provider
His provision is compassion.
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
Hosea 11:1-4 (NIV)
1 “When Israel was a child, I loved him,
and out of Egypt I called my son.
2 But the more they were called,
the more they went away from me.
They sacrificed to the Baals
and they burned incense to images.
3 It was I who taught Ephraim to walk,
taking them by the arms;
but they did not realize
it was I who healed them.
4 I led them with cords of human kindness,
with ties of love.
To them I was like one who lifts
a little child to the cheek,
and I bent down to feed them.
His provision is blessing.
Ephesians 1:3 (NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
Ephesians 3:14-15 (NIV) For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name.
His provision is forever.
Psalms 103:13-18 (NIV)
13 As a father has compassion on his children,
so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him;
14 for He knows how we are formed,
He remembers that we are dust.
15 The life of mortals is like grass,
they flourish like a flower of the field;
16 the wind blows over it and it is gone,
and its place remembers it no more.
17 But from everlasting to everlasting
the LORD’S love is with those who fear Him,
and His righteousness with their children’s children—
18 with those who keep His covenant
and remember to obey His precepts.
JESUS IS THE EVERLASTING FATHER.
