
Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

A. The Spirit & My Weakness
- helps- to lay hold along with, to strife to obtain with others, help in obtaining
- Weakness- to bear trials and troubles
B. A Missing Prayer
- know- well known or acknowledged
- Pray- when I talk to God
- Ought- the recompense (compensation or reward given for loss or harm suffered or effort made) due by the law of God
C. Intercession
- Spirit- as the whole context shows, nothing other than this: ‘although we have no very definite conception of what we desire, and cannot state it in fit language in our prayer but only disclose it by inarticulate groanings, yet God receives these groanings as acceptable prayers inasmuch as they come from a soul full of the Holy Spirit.’

- heart- of things done from the heart i. e. cordially or sincerely, truly (without simulation or pretense)
- Mind- what one has in mind, the thoughts and purposes
- Make intercession- make intercession for anyone (the dative of the person approached in prayer being omitted)
- Saints- set apart that under the influence of the Holy Spirit they may be rendered, through holiness, partakers of salvation in the kingdom of God

- love- When used of love to a master, God or Christ, the word involves the idea of affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, grateful recognition of benefits received
- Called-“invited (by God in the proclamation of the gospel) to obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God through Christ”
