TALK NOTES

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. How does Jesus’ declaration “I am the resurrection and the life” in verse 25 provide hope to Martha and to us today?

  2. In verse 21, Martha says to Jesus, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.” How can we find hope in situations where we feel that Jesus is absent or not responding to our needs?

  3. In verse 33, Jesus is deeply moved by Mary’s weeping and the mourning of the others. How does Jesus’ empathy and compassion provide hope and comfort in our own times of grief?

  4. When Jesus says, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” in verse 40, how does this statement encourage us to maintain hope and faith in God’s promises?

  5. How does the reaction of the people who see Jesus weeping (verse 36) reflect the hope found in knowing that Jesus shares in our sorrows?
