Unexpected Turbulence

Introduction

1 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck what is planted; —Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 (NKJV)

18 Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later. —Romans 8:18 (NLT)

16 I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea.
19 For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
—Isaiah 43:16-19 (NLT)

Four Ways To Overcome Spiritual Turbulence

1. Adjust Altitude: Seek God’s

26 And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. —Romans 8:26 (NLT)

2. Change Flight Path: Embrace New In Faith

17 When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, ‘If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’ 18 So God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready for battle. —Exodus 13:17-18 (NLT)

3. Adjust Speed: Myself and Lean into God’s Timing

9 So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. —Galatians 6:9 (NLT)

4. Communicate: Rely on the of God’s and My Community

11 Then He said, “Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord.” And behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; 12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice. —1 Kings 19:11-12 (NKJV)

Conclusion

10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand. —Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

12 We went through fire and flood, but you brought us to a place of great abundance. —Psalm 66:12 (NLT)

My Next Steps:

  1. Dedicate a specific time each day this week to quiet myself to listen for God’s “still small voice” and to gain His perspective on my trials
  2. Consider stepping out in faith tp serve in a new ministry opportunity, take a different path.
  3. Take a step to call on a small group member, especially if I have been disconnected from my faith community.
