2 Kings 22:1-20

22:1-2 | Josiah was the long-awaited king (1 Kgs. 13:2). He instituted great reform, although too late to make any difference to Judah’s fate.

22:3-7 | Shaphan’s oversight of the temple repairs and the financing of that work at Josiah’s request was similar to the role Jehoash played in 12:1-16.

22:8-13 | Upon hearing the words in the Book of the Law (the Torah, the Pentateuch), Josiah was deeply grieved. How far Judah had fallen!

22:14 | The office of prophetess is mentioned eight times in Scripture. Of the five women who are named, Miriam (Ex. 15:20), Deborah (Judg. 4:4, and Anna (Luke 2:36) are best-known. Huldah is also referred to in 2 Chronicles 34:22-28.

22:15-20 | You shall be gathered to your grave in peace means Josiah would die before these terrible events befell Jerusalem.
