Book of Malachi

Author: probably the prophet Malachi, but could be a general term for “my messenger”
Audience: Israelites in Jerusalem after they returned from exile, about the sinful practices and attitudes they had
Genre: interrogation prose
When: around 430 B.C. after Nehemiah’s return from Jerusalem to serve the king of Persia
Why: to encourage the faithful abou God’s holiness and justice

  1. The priests showed contempt for God by offering the leftovers for sacrifices. In what ways do we offer God the leftovers in our lives? Ask God to show you areas (time, money, resources, etc.) where you may be withholding the best from Him.

  2. How does it encourage you to hear that God hears those that fear Him and remembers them by name? Take a moment to rest in being called God’s treasured possession.
