INTRO
We‘ve been learning about the church and how to be a vibrant
Spirit-Led, Spirit-Empowered church.
We don;’t want to be an empty, powerless institution
aimlessly going through the motions and wasting our time.
In the book of Acts, the church not only grew numerically,
but spiritually as well. This is essential if we desire to experience
the miraculous and supernatural power of the Holy Spirit.
Only God can provide answers to our prayers, healing, and blessings.

“All who are victorious will inherit all these blessings,
and I will be their God, and they will be my children.”
—Revelation 21:7 NLT

TEXT

“Truly I tell you, whoever says to this mountain,
Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!
and does not doubt at all in his heart
but believes that what he says will take place,
it will be done for him.
For this reason I am telling you,
whatever you ask for in prayer,
believe (trust and be confident)
that it is granted to you, and you will [get it].”
—Mark 11:23-24

TEACHING
WHAT IS A CHURCH?

“It is an embodied gathering of actual people.
A church are actual people who gather together
in their bodies. That’s what a church is.
If they are not physically gathered
and cannot reach out and touch one another,
it is not a church.”
—~Pastor Steve Murrell, President and Co-Founder of Every Nation

ENGAGING IN PASSIONATE AND POWERFUL PRAYER TIMES
“A consistent, passionate, and effective prayer life
doesn’t originate with a sense of need, even the needs of others.
Neither is it simply presenting your list of requests to God.
Many who are unaccustomed to this priority and approach
(those in the habit of storming heaven with needs, requests, and wants)
have difficulty and are uncomfortable sitting quietly in God’s presence.
A life of prayer flows from ongoing fellowship with the Spirit
and the invitation to partner with the Father in seeing His kingdom
come on earth as it is in heaven.
If we do not seek first and desire God’s presence and God’s pleasure,
then we come to His table not as heirs to the promise
but like beggars waiting for the next crumb to fall.”
“Christians who focus primarily on requests
rather than communion can at times
seem to be talking to someone with whom
they have a distant or even uncertain relationship.
After running through a laundry list of needs, they think to themselves,
Okay, what do I say now? They stumble through the conversation,
desperately trying to avoid those awkward moments of silence.
In broadcasting, they call this “dead air.”
Consequently, the language of prayer becomes redundant, repetitive,
and quite unnatural. [ranting and rambling]
If those conversations with God were transcribed, what an odd and
mechanical relationship it would suggest!
Having said all that’s on their mind, they begin to get anxious
and decide it’s time to get on to other business.
[all of this only after 10 minutes in prayer. [Auwe!]
This is not so unlike Jesus’ parable of the prodigal son (Luke15:11-32).”

PRAYER
1) Actioning the 4 E’s in your different circles throughout the week.

CONNECTING QUESTIONS
1) “A consistent, passionate, and effective prayer life
doesn’t originate with a sense of need, even the needs of others,
but from ongoing communion with God.”

Tune my heart, oh Lord,
to be sensitive to Your Spirit
calling me to spend time in Your presence.
Forgive me for turning away
and resisting Your invitation,
for the want of other things
to occupy my thoughts and activities.
The flesh is weak, but the Holy Spirit
is willing to empower my prayer life.
Lord, fill me and empower me
with the unction to intercede
on behalf of your kingdom purposes.
May the passion of Jesus
flow through me to stand in the gap
for those in need, and let me feel
the force of Your love
for those You have called to Yourself.”

2) “Replicating a form or methodology of prayer
will not automatically produce a Spirit-empowered prayer life.”

“Without Your Presence,
I am unable to do the things
I know that I should do.
The desire is in me, but the power is not.
Forgive me for thinking I could do Your will
by my own strength or by my own resolve.
I am dependent upon You for my steadfastness,
for my spiritual disciplines, for my sanctification.
Apart from You, there is no limit to how far I might fall.
If my prayer life is dominated by my needs and wants
apart from my need and want of God’s Presence,
I am like a spoiled child who longs for stuff
far more than longing for the Father.
Forgive me for seeking Your Blessings
far more than I desire Your Presence.” —“Spirit-Empowered Prayer: Partnering with God in Advancing His Kingdom” by Manny Carlos, Walter Walker
