Week 6: Ruth 3:1-4:10

May 26- June 1

Overview: As the story of Ruth continues to unfold, Naomi seeks to provide Ruth with a home of her own. In Hebrew culture, a guardian-redeemer was a legal term referring to someone with the obligation to redeem a relative facing serious difficulty. Leviticus 25:25-55 outlines provisions for poverty in the Jewish community, demonstrating God’s care in preserving each person’s property by making it redeemable. The Year of Jubilee, occurring every fifty years, ensured that lost property was restored to families without payment.

Boaz steps in as a kinsman-redeemer to preserve Naomi’s late husband’s property. At Naomi’s direction, Ruth asks Boaz for these provisions, and he willingly pursues the matter that very day. Boaz serves as a picture of Christ, our Redeemer.

“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13-14

We are so thankful for the redemption Christ has provided for you and me!
