Welcome

On this Memorial Day week, we are reflecting on Paul’s charge to Timothy in 2 Timothy. As you begin your study share together a ‘charge’ that someone gave to you that impacted you. A charge is a word of encouragement or challenge. You may have received a charge as part of a commencement, etc. or personally by a mentor, friend, or parent, etc. How did it impact you?

Worship

In 2 Timothy 1:2, Paul greets Timothy by writing: “Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.” Use this greeting as guide to prayer:
- Thank God together for His grace, mercy, and peace
- Pray for the places you have not experienced grace, mercy, and peace. Give them to God.
- Pray for others in hard places that they may experience grace, mercy, and peace from God and Jesus though the Holy Spirit.

Word

Read 2 Timothy 3:14-4:18
1. What is the crux of what Paul has to say about Timothy’s life (verses 14-17)?
2. What does Paul state about the origin and purpose of scripture?
3. What nine final orders does Paul solemnly charge Timothy to fulfill (4:1-5)?
4. In the climax of this letter, the last recorded message Paul wrote, how does the Apostle sum up his life and ministry?
5. Do you share Paul’s hope for the future? How does it motivate you now?
6. How do Paul’s words challenge or encourage your life and ministry? How are you fighting (or not fighting) the good fight?
7. What of Paul’s charge would you like to practice in the next days and weeks?

Witness

How are you encouraged this week to ‘preach the gospel’ with your words and actions this week?
