Ephesians 5:25-30 - IT COMES AT A COST

BIG QUESTION: AM I WILLING TO SACRIFICE MY LIFE BUT NOT MY LIFESTYLE?

“Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, 26 that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. 28 In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, 30 because we are members of his body —Ephesians 5:25–30

FLOURISHING families are the result of SACRIFICES made in several areas including but not limited to…

… your RECREATION

Rest & Recreation are rewards that come AFTER getting the job done

“And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. 3 So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation. (see also Ecclesiastes 5:12)” —Genesis 2:2–3

… your SPENDING

It is more common (and exciting) to buy clutter, distraction, obligation, and the appearance of success than it is to buy time, money, health, freedom, margin, and focus. Do you want a common family or an uncommon family?

“But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” —1 Timothy 5:8

… your WORK

Husbands and fathers are called to provide for their families and take dominion in Jesus’ name, not abandon their families and exalt themselves

“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” —Colossians 3:23–24

WORD TO THE WIVES: Are you a wife who inspires your husband to sacrifice for the family?

“She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life.” —Proverbs 31:12

It’s easier to forgo legitimate but TEMPORARY desires when viewed in the light of ETERNITY

“Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” —Luke 22:42–44
