I AM…Preparing - Message Study Questions
Message Summary
In the book of Exodus, God miraculously provides for His people. He rescues them from slavery and leads them into a new life – a life with God living among them. Early in Exodus, God identifies Himself to Moses as, “I AM.” Exodus is not about a God of the past or a God of the dead, but about the living God who is the same today as He always has been and always will be. In this series, we will learn how God works with His people and how He will be at work in our lives today. Preparing: Through difficulties and pains, God prepared Moses to lead His people to freedom. You too may be in a difficult season right now, but God may be preparing to work through you in a new way.
Can you share a time when God used adversity to prepare you for some impactful Kingdom service?
If you knew someone wanted to kill you or a loved one, what would be your first reaction? What would be your ultimate reaction?
Consider This
Moses lived forty years in the royal Egyptian court. He remained in exile, tending sheep in a remote land for another forty years. At age eighty, God called him to do a mighty work. What if the pains you’ve experienced and the difficult seasons you’ve had to overcome weren’t for nothing? What if God wants to use that to do a work through you now?
Who came to Egypt according to Exodus 1:1-4? How many were there?
How does this passage describe the population growth of the Israelites compared to that of the Egyptians (Exodus 1:7, 9)? Why the difference (see Acts 7:14-17)? Do you think that children are a blessing from the Lord?
Pharaoh’s fear caused him to make evil decisions. How might fear affect our life decisions today?
Read Exodus 1:15-17. Who did the midwives fear most, God or Pharaoh? How would you go about handling a similar situation, obey the law or do the right thing?
Do you think God can work in people’s hearts despite unjust and wicked laws?
Read Acts 7:22-23. How would you describe Moses’ position in the royal Egyptian court for the first forty years of his life?
Read Exodus 2:11-12. What do you see right or wrong about Moses killing the Egyptian slave master? What was the end result?
Should you run from your problems like Moses, or should you stand and endure or stand and fight? How can you know what to do in a given context (James 1:5)?
Read Exodus 2:23-25. How do you feel knowing that God hears our cries for help?
