Our Sins Are Paid

Our sins were paid.

The title “Son” refers NOT to His relation but to His

with God the Father.

The Son of means Jesus is and sent from heaven.

John 6:32 Jesus then said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.”

The Son of means Jesus is and returns from heaven.

John 1:51 And he said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

Purpose of sending His Son:

The divinity of Jesus

paid for our sins when the entwined humanity of Jesus died for our sins.

2 Corinthians 5:21 *For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

When God looked at the cross, He saw .

When God now looks at you, He sees

.

Gospel living means laying down your -based acceptance for Christ’s -based acceptance.

THE PAUSE: 10 MINUTES WITH GOD

MONDAY | TRUE LOVE
PASSAGE: 1 John 3:16
PAUSE: What is love? God showed us true love by sending Jesus into the world to die for our sins. The Gospel is something we believe, but it is also something we live out. True love is radical; it lays down our lives for others.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for Your sacrificial love. Open my eyes to see how I can truly love others with the radical love You showed me!

TUESDAY | DECEPTION AT IT’S WORSE
PASSAGE: 1 John 1:8
PAUSE: Whatever happened to the word “sin”? We deceive ourselves when we say that we have not sinned. Even though our culture is uncomfortable with the word sin. We need to recognize and call it what it is. Jesus’s best friend John was clear: we deceive ourselves greatly when we fail to call sin, sin!
PRAYER: Father, forgive me for failing to acknowledge my sin. Help me be honest, acknowledge my sin when I sin, and then confess it to You.

WEDNESDAY | AGREEING WITH GOD
PASSAGE: 1 John 1:9
PAUSE: Once we acknowledge our sin, we need to confess it. Confession is literally agreeing with God. Confession is agreeing with God that our thoughts or actions contrary to His will are sinful. When we agree with God about our sins, He cleanses us and restores us back into fellowship with Him.
PRAYER: Father, I confess that I have sinned against You! I acknowledge that my attitudes and actions fall short of Your glory. Thank you for forgiving me!

THURSDAY | THE BRIDGE
PASSAGE: 1 Peter 3:18
PAUSE: One of the clearest Gospel passages outside of John is 1 Peter 3:18. Peter understood the consequences of sin; he knew that sin separated us from a holy God. Yet he also knew Jesus was the bridge to bring us to God.
PRAYER: Father, thank you for Jesus, thank you for the cross. I praise you for sending Jesus to be the bridge to forgiveness and everlasting life in Christ.

FRIDAY | PAID IN FULL
PASSAGE: John 19:30
PAUSE: The good news of the Gospel is that our sins have been atoned for once and for all. When Christ cried out, “It is Finished!” He wanted the whole world to know that our sins have been paid for in full. Do you believe this? Do you struggle to accept the gift of salvation? If so, remember, “It is Finished!”
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, when I doubt Your forgiveness, help me to pause and remember that Christ suffered and died on the cross for my forgiveness. Thank you for the good news of the Gospel; help me to share this next week.
