Joel 2:18-32

2:20 | Judah’s repentance would prompt the Lord to show mercy and withhold His judgment, pictured here as locusts being driven into the sea. The northern army is the locust-like, opposing nation’s army described earlier in this chapter.

2:28-32 | The events described here will follow the deliverance from the northern invader, Prophesy in Scripture often produces praise to God. Dreams and visions were customary ways that the Lord communicated special revelations in OT times.

2:30-31 | In the Bible, darkness accompanied serious events: when Jesus died on the cross (Matt. 27:45); when Egypt was judged (Ex. 10:21-29); when the Lord came down at Mount Sinai (Ex. 24:15-16). Cosmic upheavals – wonders in the heavens – will signal that a great event is about to happen; Jesus’ soon return to earth to establish His kingdom.
