Luke 21:9-11 NLT
“9 And when you hear of wars and insurrections, don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place first, but the end won’t follow immediately.” 10 Then he added, “Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. 11 There will be great earthquakes, and there will be famines and plagues in many lands, and there will be terrifying things and great miraculous signs from heaven.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭21‬:‭28‬‬
So when all these things begin to happen, stand and look up, for your salvation is near!”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭6‬:‭19‬‬
We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain,

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22‬:‭32‬‬
‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭6‬‬
Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God? If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way. For the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.” When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners. David also spoke of this when he described the happiness of those who are declared righteous without working for it:

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭7‬-‭13‬‬
“Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sins are put out of sight. Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.” Now, is this blessing only for the Jews, or is it also for uncircumcised Gentiles? Well, we have been saying that Abraham was counted as righteous by God because of his faith. But how did this happen? Was he counted as righteous only after he was circumcised, or was it before he was circumcised? Clearly, God accepted Abraham before he was circumcised! Circumcision was a sign that Abraham already had faith and that God had already accepted him and declared him to be righteous—even before he was circumcised. So Abraham is the spiritual father of those who have faith but have not been circumcised. They are counted as righteous because of their faith. And Abraham is also the spiritual father of those who have been circumcised, but only if they have the same kind of faith Abraham had before he was circumcised. Clearly, God’s promise to give the whole earth to Abraham and his descendants was based not on his obedience to God’s law, but on a right relationship with God that comes by faith.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭14‬-‭17‬‬
If God’s promise is only for those who obey the law, then faith is not necessary and the promise is pointless. For the law always brings punishment on those who try to obey it. (The only way to avoid breaking the law is to have no law to break!) So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe. That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬-‭25‬‬
Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead—since he was about a hundred years old—and that Sarah’s womb was also dead. Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬‬
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Faith is the vehicle but hope is the destination.

Vs. 19 “without weakening in his faith, Abraham faced the facts”

When we get real with God about the issues in our life is not when he finds out about them. It’s when we begin to be empowered to be set free from them.

God’s Invitation to Abram

Genesis 12:1-3 NIV “1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Breaking free to move forward in faith: Abram had to leave what was good to pursue what was God.

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be misled: “Bad company corrupts good character.”

Don’t “Settle”

Genesis 11:26-32 NLT “26 After Terah was 70 years old, he became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.”

‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬‬
This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.

‭‭Genesis‬ ‭11‬:‭27‬-‭32‬‬
This is the account of Terah’s family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milkah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive. Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of pain – the pain of your past
Terah had three sons - Haran died in a Ur while his father was still living. When they came to Haran they stopped and settled in the place that reminded them of their pain and loss.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭37‬-‭39‬‬
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of disappointment
Genesis 15:2&3 NLT “2 But Abram replied, “O Sovereign LORD, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. 3You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.”

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of doubt
Genesis 15:6-8 NLT “6 And Abram believed the LORD, and the LORD counted him as righteous because of his faith.7Then the LORD told him, “I am the LORD who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.”8But Abram replied, “O Sovereign LORD, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?”

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of defeat
Genesis 15:13-14 NLT “13 Then the LORD said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. 14 But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end they will come away with great wealth.”

With God, living by faith, we can fail forward

Proverbs 24:16 NKJV “For a righteous man may fall seven times And rise again.”

Proverbs 24:16 NLT: “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.”

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of Success
Many people in America, Christians in America, are in bondage because of blessing.

God loves to bless his people. Poverty and lack are not virtues of the Kingdom. We need prosperous people who are Kingdom minded, Kingdom building, Kingdom advancing people of God.

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬‬
You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.

One of the hallmarks of spiritual maturity – how much can God bless you and you still need Him.

  • How much can God release to you and you still require Him?
  • How much can God deliver to you and you still desire Him?
  • How much can God provide to you and you still pursue Him?

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬‬
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬‬
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

True and lasting joy, peace, and freedom is only found in an ongoing, on fire, relationship with a person whose name is Jesus Christ.

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of the cross - A Call to Spiritual Growth
Hebrews 5:11-12a NLT 11There is much more we would like to say about this, but it is difficult to explain, especially since you are spiritually dull and don’t seem to listen. 12You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.

‭‭Revelation‬ ‭3‬:‭15‬-‭16‬‬
“I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!

‭‭Luke‬ ‭10‬:‭19‬‬
Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬‬
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18‬:‭18‬‬
“Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

Ways We Tend to Settle:

  1. In a place of Rejection
Because love and acceptance are our greatest needs, rejection is our greatest pain.

‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭31‬:‭3‬‬
The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭5‬‬
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭27‬‬
Can we boast, then, that we have done anything to be accepted by God? No, because our acquittal is not based on obeying the law. It is based on faith.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭21‬-‭25‬‬
But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭16‬‬
So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses, if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.

‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭17‬‬
That is what the Scriptures mean when God told him, “I have made you the father of many nations.” This happened because Abraham believed in the God who brings the dead back to life and who creates new things out of nothing.
