Main Idea: Anointed
Check-In (Highs & Lows) 15 min
A great, quick way to catch the highlights of what is happening in the lives of the people in your group is to take turns quickly sharing the “highs & lows” of your week. High: What was your biggest highlight since we last met? Low: What was the low point during this time?
Settle-In (Ice-Breaker) 10 min
Discuss a time when your expertise was validated and a time when it was invalidated. How did you handle each of those, and how did they make you feel?
Dig-In (Scripture) 35 min
1. Read 1 Samuel 16:6-7. Discuss a time that you made an incorrect judgment based on someone’s outside appearance. What was the end result?
2. What does this kind of judgment do to a person? Discuss a time when you have been judged by your outward appearance and what that did to you.
3. Read Luke 16:10-11. Why is it important to be faithful with the little things? How does this relate with the big giftings that God has given you?
4. Read 1 Samuel 18:14-15. What does it mean to be anointed by God? What is the direct result from such an anointing? What should be our response?
5. Read Romans 8:17-18. What does it mean to be co-heirs in the faith? How does this relate to being anointed?
6. How do you typically respond to suffering? What does it mean to you when it says that if you share in Jesus’ suffering, you also get to share in his glory?
Gear-Up (Application) 15 min
1. Reflect on a time when you faced adversity or suffering. How did it shape your character and faith?
2. What is currently holding you back from the anointing God has placed on your life? What changes do you need to make to live more in that anointing?
Step-Up (Homework)
Reflect on the concept of being anointed for a specific purpose. Spend time in prayer and self-reflection to identify areas of your life where you believe God may be calling you to serve or make a positive impact. Write down your thoughts and feelings about this potential calling, and consider discussing it with a trusted friend or mentor for guidance and support.
