I. Know that God Loves You

     (Mark 16:6-7; John 20:4; Luke 24:33b-34; 1 Corinthians 15:5b)

II. Remember How God
      (John 21:1-6)

Luke 5:1-3 “On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.”

Luke 5:4 “And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.’”

Luke 5:5 “And Simon answered, ‘Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! “But at your word I will let down the nets.’”

Luke 5:6-7 “And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink.”

Luke 5:8 “But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, ‘Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.’”

John 21:7 “That disciple whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, ‘It is the Lord!’ When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea.”

John 21:8 “The other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off.”

John 21:9 “When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire in place, with fish laid out on it, and bread.”

John 18:18 “Now the servants and officers had made a charcoal fire, because it was cold, and they were standing and warming themselves. Peter also was with them, standing and warming himself.”

John 21:10-11 “Jesus said to them, ‘Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.’ So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, 153 of them. And although there were so many, the net was not torn.”

John 21:12-14 “Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ Now none of the disciples dared ask him, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.”

III. for the Lord

            A. The First Question

John 21:15a “When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?’”

Mark 14:29 “Peter said to him, ‘Even though they all fall away, I will not.’”

John 21:15b “He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.’ He said to him, ‘Feed my lambs.’”

1 Peter 5:1-2a “So I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as a partaker in the glory that is going to be revealed: shepherd the flock of God that is among you”

            B. The Second Question

John 21:16a “He said to him a second time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’”

John 21:16b “He said to him, ‘Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.’ He said to him, ‘Tend my sheep.’”

            C. The Third Question

John 21:17a “He said to him the third time, ‘Simon, son of John, do you love me?’”

John 21:17b “Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, ‘Do you love me?’ and he said to him, ‘Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Feed my sheep.’”

John 14:15a “If you love me, you will keep my commandments”

IV. No Matter What Happens, Christ!

John 21:18-19 “Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go. (This he said to show by what kind of death he was to glorify God.) And after saying this he said to him, ‘Follow me.’”
