MIRACLE—WHEN GOD IN HEAVEN INTERVENES ON EARTH


Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. - Ephesians 3:20 NIV


OUR GOD HEALS, BUT HE DOESN’T HEAL

Erastus stayed in Corinth, and I left Trophimus sick in Miletus. - 2 Timothy 4:20 NIV

Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses. - 1 Timothy 5:23 NIV

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9 NIV

3 REASONS JESUS DIDN’T DO MIRACLES

  1. Jesus Refused To Perform Miracles To Himself.

The Pharisees came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from heaven. He sighed deeply and said, “Why does this generation ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it.” - Mark 8:11-12 NIV


2. Jesus Never Performed A Miracle That

_ With God's Ultimate Will.

“Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly? But if I did, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that describe what must happen now?” - Matthew 26:53-54 NLT


3. Jesus Didn’t Perform Miracles Where There Was No

When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. - Matthew 8:10 NIV He was amazed at their lack of faith. – Mark 6:6 NIV


OUR FAITH ISN’T BASED ON WHAT GOD DOES. OUR FAITH IS BASED ON WHO GOD IS.


THE HIGHEST PURPOSE FOR JESUS COMING WAS NOT TO HEAL OUR BODIES, BUT TO SAVE OUR SOULS.


When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” - Mark 2:5 NIV

  1. Describe a time when you prayed and somebody was healed.
  2. Is it easy or hard for you to believe God still heals? How have you come to think this way?
  3. When is the last time you asked God for a miracle? What happened? What did you think or feel?
  4. Why do you think it can be so difficult to ask for a miracle for yourself or people you’re close to?
  5. Read Ephesians 3:20. What do you do think it means when applied to prayer?
  6. What is the state of your faith? How would Jesus consider “Amazed”—at which end of the pendulum? Explain.
  7. The highest purpose for Jesus coming was not to heal our bodies, but to save our souls. Discuss.
  8. Which part of this message stood out to you, and why?
