Acts 2:1-7; 12
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

Genesis 1:2
*The earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was HOVERING over the FACE of the waters. *

2 Hebrew Words from Genesis 1:2 that are important for us to know:
(1) RACAPH: It’s the Hebrew word for “Hovering”. This is like a mother bird who hovers over her baby birds. That word can also be translated, “Relax.”
.
(2) PANIM: It’s Hebrew word for “Face”. This is an intimate word. It implies that God is closer than close. Like a parent embracing a child.

Genesis 2:7 is the first Breath. God breathes into Adam the breath of life.
.
The Holy Spirit is HOVERING over everything, but also closer than close, but also the breath that fills your lungs. Question: Where can you go from His Spirit. Answer: Nowhere.

Practical Application:
(1) This week, practice praying this simple prayer at the beginning and end of each day: “Come, Holy Spirit.” Be still, and pray that prayer.

(2) Step into community. Join a SUMMER FUN GROUP, beginning in just a few weeks. This is a great way to create relationships that point you to Christ.
