Because Broken People Are Welcome
Week: 2
Part of Why Would You Go There?
May 3, 2025

Because broken people are welcome here.

Brokenness is one thing we all have in common.

Even the Faithful Fall.

8 But Noah found favor with the Lord.”
Genesis 6:8

9 This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless person living on earth at the time, and he walked in close fellowship with God. 10 Noah was the father of three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.” Genesis 6:9-10

20 After the flood, Noah began to cultivate the ground, and he planted a vineyard. 21 One day he drank some wine he had made, and he became drunk and lay naked inside his tent.” Genesis 9:20-21

We have a choice in how we respond to someone’s brokenness.

23 Then Shem and Japheth took a robe, held it over their shoulders, and backed into the tent to cover their father. As they did this, they looked the other way so they would not see him naked.” Genesis 9:22-23

8 Most important of all, continue to show deep love for each other, for love covers a multitude of sins.” 1 Peter 4:8

Broken people will always have a seat at the table.

10 Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. 11 But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, ‘Why does your teacher eat with such scum?’ 12 When Jesus heard this, he said, ‘Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.’” Matthew 9:10-12
