The Great Adventure

Pastor Jeremy Helmuth
FAITH over FEAR (Genesis 15)
May 5-7, 2023

TRUST leads us to HEAVEN
The clearest statement in the Old Testament that we are saved by faith in found in the story of Abraham when he believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Abraham had many fears about his future, but when he believed (trusted, had faith) in God, he was saved. What can we learn from Abraham’s belief?

trust in God when you

Our salvation is

because we’re

Discussion Questions

Does your SAVLATION feel SECURE?
Have you ever had moments when you doubt that you will go to heaven when you die? What do you tell yourself when you fear that you’re too much of a failure for God to forgive you?

Do you allow GOD’S WORD to COMFORT you?
When Abraham was filled with fear, God spoke to him. In the same way, when we are gripped with fear, we must open the Bible and listen for God’s voice. The next time you’re struck with fear, meditate upon these verses (Phil 4:6-7; 2 Tim 1:7; Is 41:10; Josh 1:9; 1 Peter 5:7; John 14:27; Prov 3:5-6; Ps 23:4; 27:1; 34:4; 56:3; Heb 13:6; Zeph 3:17). Did these verses calm your soul?

Do you really need a NEW HEART?
Study the meaning of having a “new and clean heart” (John 3:3; Ez 11:19; 18:31; 36:26; Ps 51:10; 2 Cor 5:17; Jer 17:9; Mt 5:8; Heb 10:22; James 4:8). What is the difference between trying to become a better person morally and surrendering your will to God so that He can make you righteous?

What is a UNILATERAL covenant?
God unconditionally committed Himself to fulfilling His promises with Abraham. In the same way, Jesus died for us and secured our salvation. Is this verse comforting: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful” (2 Tim 2:13)? Discuss this: if it was up to us to gain salvation, we would be in trouble.

How GREAT is your GOD?
Challenge this week: Go outside as many times as you can this week and spend time looking up at the stars in the night sky.
