Living a Balanced Life

1. FAITH: John 17:3 – [The ROOT]
“And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

  • Accepting Jesus as Savior & Lord is the foundation for a meaningful & fruitful life.
  • The Baptism of the Spirit is the doorway into a life of supernatural influence.
  • God’s Word is vital to provide wisdom & guidance for every decision we make.

2. FITNESS: 3 John 2 – [The TRUNK]
“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper & be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.”

  • Spiritual growth will involve gaining wisdom in becoming physically healthy.
  • Health is a gift of youth, but an achievement as one ages.
  • Aging with frailty is a crippling myth that needs deliberate correction.

3. FAMILY: Psalm 128:3,6 – [The BRANCHES]
“Thy wife [shall be] as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. … Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, [and] peace upon Israel.”

  • A wife is God’s greatest gift a man can be given on earth.
  • God’s promise is that our children will accomplish more than we have.
  • God’s desire: leaving a multi-generational family legacy that will change the world.

4. FINANCE: I Timothy 5:8 – [LEAVES]
“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”

  • Jesus taught more about money than any other topic of faith in the Gospel.
  • When we follow what Jesus taught, God will provide every need we have.
  • God will also provide more than we need to bless others.

5. FRUIT: John 15:16 – [The FRUITS]
“Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and [that] your fruit should remain …”

  • Fruit is the natural result of a tree’s growth, not its immediate objective.
  • You only harvest the specific seed you sow.
  • Anyone can count the seeds in an apple; Only God can count the apples in a seed.

Let’s Talk About It

Pastor Eddie shared that in the early years of ministry life, he was mesmerized by the power of the Spirit and abandoned himself to serve the Lord totally. As a result, he ignored basic vital arenas of life and was an unbalanced Christian, strong in faith and fruit, but bankrupt in fitness, family and finances. Everyone needs to evaluate the FIVE Fs in their own lives to assess their strengths and weaknesses to build greater meaning, balance and fruitfulness.

John 17:3; 3 John 2; Psalm 128:3,6; 1 Timothy 5:8; John 15:16

  • Which part of the message impacted and challenged you?

  • What does a balanced life look like? How does understanding the “Five F’s” help you build a healthy life?

  • Read John 17:3. Why is it important to keep faith as the foundation? Describe a season in your life when other things took priority and you attempted to build your life without faith as your foundation. How did that work for you?

  • Read 3 John 2. How have you seen your physical health influence your spiritual health? Do you currently have an exercise routine? What step can you develop a healthier diet and exercise rhythm?

  • Which of the five Fs is the area of your prominent strength? Why is that so? How can you leverage that strength to serve God’s kingdom?

  • Which of the five Fs is the area of your prominent weakness? Why is that so? What is one action step can you take to focus on strengthening that weak area?

Here’s My Prayer

Father, thank You for all the blessings You have generously given me. Help me to order and prioritize my life so You remain the foundation of my life. Guide me to reorder my priorities to live in a way that brings maximum fruitfulness for Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, amen.
