Mark 3:13-14, Luke 10:38-42 (ESV)

3:13 Jesus went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach. … 10:38 Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, 42 but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Intro: Sitting at Jesus’ feet is what we train to do as a daily habit …

THE SIGNIFICANCE OF DELIGHT
What is the relationship of delight to work?

OBSTACLES & DISTRACTIONS
How can we put tasks ahead of people?

ONE THING IS NEEDFUL
How did Jesus work out what He had with His Father?

YOU CAN PRAY WITH US …
1 - Worship the LORD for His worth and beauty, especially in His heart to serve. Praise Him, Father, Son and Holy Spirit for His surpassing worth, His sufficiency and His mighty work to save sinners like us.

2 - How have you lived anxious and distracted, more concerned for your record over your love for God? Confess your pride to put busyness for God ahead of Him, asking Jesus to forgive you and change your heart.

3 - Give thanks to Jesus for being “the good portion”. Thank Him that He is the One Who is necessary – the Treasure that will not be taken away from the one who receives Him in faith and repentance.

4 - Who do you know that does not know how to sit at Jesus’ feet? Pray for them, asking the Lord to slow them down and help them focus so that they might see their need for Him and His amazing glory and grace.

5 - Read John 10:27-30 & Isaiah 43:1, 10-13. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you trust that Jesus will not be taken from you and that you cannot be taken from Him. Pray for such fullness in Jesus that you would be eager to sit at His feet every day and bear witness of Him joyfully.
