Day 249 - Fuel Your Body
Emily Green
“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” - 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT
Yesterday, we briefly mentioned how taking care of our physical bodies includes what we eat and drink. 1 Corinthians 10:31 is another testament that God cares about what we put into our bodies.
I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t always fill my body with the best fuel. I love snacks and chocolate. I love fried food. I love McDonald’s. I LOVE sugar. However, I also know that whatever I put in my body should be glorifying to God.
One night, Austin and I picked up Taco Bell for dinner. We sat down to eat, and Austin prayed over the food before we ate. He said, “God, please bless this meal. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.” And as I looked at our quesadillas, nachos, and tacos that we got for maybe $5, I looked at him and said, “There’s no way God is going to bless this!”
I was joking, but it made me think about what I’m putting into my body. Is it glorifying God when I put things in my body that do more harm than good? I’m not saying we can’t have snacks, chocolate, fried food, or sugar. However, I am saying that we should be mindful of what and how much we eat and drink.
The only way to know if what we’re putting into our bodies is glorifying God is to ask Him. What would it look like if you asked God to help you make your grocery list for the week? What would it look like if you asked God to give you wisdom before you ordered off the menu?
The Bible says that we are to do everything to the glory of God, including what we use to fuel our bodies!
Next Steps
- Think about it: What am I putting into my body?
- Think about it: On a scale of 1-10 (1 being not healthy and 10 being healthy), how beneficial is the fuel I’m putting into my body?
- Action Step: Take a mental note of everything you eat and drink today. Ask God for wisdom to make healthy choices.
