CP Group Questions

  1. This last Sunday, we finished up a series called Money Talks, where we explored Jesus’ perspective of money. Why do you think many of us are uncomfortable talking about finances at church?
  2. A theme throughout this series was about how money is the chief competitor for our hearts. We came to this conclusion by looking at how much Jesus talked about money, and specifically his words in Matthew 6:19-24. In what ways can money take our hearts captive?
  3. On Sunday, Mike shared that he believes most people desire to be more generous but lack the opportunity because of what he called a “scarcity mindset” – the belief that there is never enough. Do you have any experience with a “scarcity mindset”?
  4. Mike referenced Zacchaeus’ financial transformation after his encounter with Jesus from Luke 19, which resulted in his “scarcity mindset” being replaced with room for generosity. What changed for Zacchaeus that made room for generosity?
  5. Ask someone to read Philippians 4:10-13. After reading, what did the Apostle Paul consider “enough” in his life (what he was content with)? What factors in his life allowed him to reach this conclusion (content in any situation)?
  6. Mike suggested two questions to ask yourself when looking for placed to practice generosity: “What am I grateful for?”, and “What breaks my heart?” If time allows, ask a couple volunteers to share how they would answer these two questions. Have fun with it: “If someone entrusted you with giving away a million dollars, where would you send it?”
