A voice of one calling: “In the wilderness prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
Isaiah 40:3

I tell you the truth, of all who have ever lived, none is greater than John the Baptist.
Matthew 11:11

17For Herod himself had given orders to have John arrested, and he had him bound and put in prison. He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife, whom he had married. 18For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.” 19So Herodias nursed a grudge against John and wanted to kill him. But she was not able to, 20because Herod feared John and protected him, knowing him to be a righteous and holy man. When Herod heard John, he was greatly puzzled; yet he liked to listen to him. 21Finally the opportune time came. On his birthday Herod gave a banquet for his high officials and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee. 22When the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you.” 23And he promised her with an oath, “Whatever you ask I will give you, up to half my kingdom.” 24She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” “The head of John the Baptist,” she answered. 25At once the girl hurried in to the king with the request: “I want you to give me right now the head of John the Baptist on a platter.” 26The king was greatly distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he did not want to refuse her. 27So he immediately sent an executioner with orders to bring John’s head. The man went, beheaded John in the prison, 28and brought back his head on a platter. He presented it to the girl, and she gave it to her mother.
Mark 6:17-28

John also publicly criticized Herod Antipas, the ruler of Galilee, for marrying Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for many other wrongs he had done.
Luke 3:19

Walk with the wise and become wise; associate with fools and get in trouble.
Proverbs 13:20

14Do not enter the path of the wicked, and do not walk in the way of the evil. 15Avoid it; do not go on it; turn away from it and pass on.
Proverbs 4:14-15

Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
1 Corinthians 15:33

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.
James 1:6

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him.
Psalm 37:5

Honor Christ and let him be the Lord of your life.
1 Peter 3:15

Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 10:28

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety.
Proverbs 29:25

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him.
Psalm 37:5

In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.
Proverbs 3:6
