Easter is superior because our Savior is superior.

Hebrews 2:14-18; 7:20-28

Two main reasons Jesus is superior

Jesus is

human.

“That which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched—this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.” —1 John 1:1

Why does being fully human matter so much?

  1. Jesus

    in his death (Hebrews 2:14-16).
Jesus executed a complete of every other hostile power (Col. 2:15; 1 Cor. 15:24-27).

  2. Jesus represents us

    (Heb. 2:17-18).
Because Jesus was a human being just like you and me, he gets how hard it is to be a human being.
Jesus has on you because he’s lived in your skin, he has wrestled with your needs, and he has felt your deep longings.

  3. Jesus was

to atone for our sins (Heb. 2:17).
Because Jesus was fully human, he was uniquely able to make reparations for our human wrongdoing.

Jesus is fully God.
The way he was born, the way he taught, the way he commanded the wind and the waves, the way he died, and most importantly the way he was raised to life again proves this truth.

Why does being fully God matter so much?

  1. Jesus represents humankind before God (Heb. 7:24-25).
Jesus continually holds his office of priesthood—our representative before God.

“Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” —Romans 8:34

  1. Being fully God, Jesus is holy,

    (Heb. 7:26).
These qualities Jesus to be the , superior sacrifice for sins.

  2. Being God, his atonement was

    (Heb. 7:27).

Response:

  1. for his fullness as God and as a human.

  2. to the fullness of Jesus.
There are the only two ways to atone for your sin. You atone for it yourself. Or you trust Jesus as your atonement.

  3. to open your heart to him.
