REAL-LIFE WORSHIP

1Let brotherly love continue.

2Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.

3Remember those in prison, as though you were in prison with them, and the mistreated, as though you yourselves were suffering bodily.

4Marriage is to be honored by all and the marriage bed kept undefiled, because God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers.

5Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.

6Therefore, we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?

7Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.

8Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. —Hebrews 13:1–8 (CSB)

Real faith should

itself out in real life.

One example is our approach to gathered

.

True worship gets by the person and work of Christ

9Don’t be led astray by various kinds of strange teachings; for it is good for the heart to be established by grace and not by food regulations, since those who observe them have not benefited.

10We have an altar from which those who worship at the tabernacle do not have a right to eat.

11For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the most holy place by the high priest as a sin offering are burned outside the camp.

12Therefore, Jesus also suffered outside the gate, so that he might sanctify the people by his own blood.

13Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing his disgrace.

14For we do not have an enduring city here; instead, we seek the one to come. —Hebrews 13:9–14 (CSB)

Through worshipping Jesus we…

  1. Worship isn’t localized to a particular .
  2. Worship isn’t restricted to particular .
  3. Worship isn’t defined by what for God but what God, in Christ, has already .

Inherit a better

. (The Heavenly Jerusalem)

True Worship gets through the daily offering of our lives.

Therefore, through him let us continually offer up to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of lips that confess his name.

Don’t neglect to do what is good and to share, for God is pleased with such sacrifices. —Hebrews 13:15–16 (CSB)

Worship involves Christ-exalting

and self-denying .

True Worship gets to those called by God to lead.

Remember your leaders who have spoken God’s word to you. As you carefully observe the outcome of their lives, imitate their faith.

—Hebrews 13:7 (CSB)

Obey your leaders and submit to them, since they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account, so that they can do this with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you. —Hebrews 13:17 (CSB)

They must

the Word of God,
2. what they preach and
3. those they lead.

DISCUSS:

  1. What does the phrase ‘Faith IRL’ mean to you, and how have you seen your faith impact your daily life?

  2. What are some potential distractions of false beliefs keeping you from true worship?

  3. Discuss the differences between worship in the Old Testament versus the New Testament. How that should shape our approach to gathered worship today.

  4. How can we ensure that our worship is not confined to a certain location, style or tradition?

  5. In what ways can you practice Christ-exalting gratitude and self-denying generosity as an expression of true worship?

  6. What are some practical ways we can honor our spiritual leaders? Should this just include our pastors or other leaders as well? If so, how should we go about it?

APPLY:

  1. This week, take a moment to verbally confess Jesus’ name in a public setting—whether in a conversation, on social media, or in a small group.

  2. Identify one area where you can give generously this week—whether it’s your time, resources, or talents—to someone in need. If you aren’t actively tithing, start this week!

  3. Write a note or have a conversation with a spiritual leader in your life. Thank them for their service as a shepherd and be specific about their impact on your life.

  4. Repent of false beliefs about what worship is all about. Center your worship on Jesus regardless of your circumstances.
