Opening question:
What’s the best practical joke you’ve seen or been a part of?
Passage:
1 John 2:12-17
Sermon Points:
The lust of the flesh is the temptation to feel good to distract oneself.
The lust of the eyes is the temptation to have material possessions to feel good about oneself.
The pride of life is the temptation to be a certain way to be perceived by others the way we want.
Discussion Questions:
1. What stuck out to you from the message or what questions did you have?
2. Looking at the temptations of flesh, eyes, and life above; which one are you most prone to? Where do you think that comes from?
3. Wolfgang talked about how the worlds system offers shallow and short-lived satisfaction. Have you seen that to be true or have you experienced that?
4. Jesus offers us an unburdened life. What is unburning about not needing to feel good, have possessions, or have people think of you a certain way?
5. Wolfgang talked about how spiritual formation is inevitable, but we have the choice about what forms us. Have you ever considered that before?
6. Is there anything in your life that has been forming you away from Christ?
7. Wolfgang recommended fasting as a tool to grow out of the temptations of flesh, eyes, and life. What has been your experience with fasting?
8. Take a look at the link on practices below. Do you want to commit to any fasting practice for this week?
