In It Not Of It
Worship

What you give time, energy, resource, and attention to is what or who you worship.

Matthew 4:8-10 NLT

8 Next the devil took him to the peak of a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.
9 “I will give it all to you,” he said, “if you will kneel down and worship me.”
10 “Get out of here, Satan,” Jesus told him. “For the Scriptures say, ‘You must worship the Lord your God and serve only him.’ ”

Deuteronomy 6:13 NLT

You must fear the LORD your God and serve him. When you take an oath, you must use only his name.

Deuteronomy 6:10-12 NLT

10 “The Lord your God will soon bring you into the land he swore to give you when he made a vow to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It is a land with large, prosperous cities that you did not build.
11 The houses will be richly stocked with goods you did not produce. You will draw water from cisterns you did not dig, and you will eat from vineyards and olive trees you did not plant. When you have eaten your fill in this land,
12 be careful not to forget the Lord, who rescued you from slavery in the land of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 6:13 NLT

You must fear the LORD your God and serve him. When you take an oath, you must use only his name.

Jesus is connecting fear, worship, and service, as the keys to entering His kingdom. It’s a resting in and not a fight for kingdom.

We can be swept up with “who we are” that we can forget who we’re serving.

We can lose sight of His majesty, power, and glory, creating a flippant familiarity in approaching the Creator of the universe and the His Son, the Messiah, Jesus.

This familiarity can open the door to religious piety or swing to the opposite extreme of living in sin consciousness or create a middle ground of spiritual dysfunction with works righteousness.

If it’s with fear, there could be worship.
If it’s without respect, it could be pride.
If it’s as a defeated foe, it’s scriptural.

Luke 10:19 ESV

Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.

Galatians 2:20 KJV

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

James 4:7 KJV

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

Philippians 2:9-11 NLT

9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

When heaven demands holiness

Colossians 1:22 NLT

Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.

When earthly trials and weaknesses try to define us

2 Peter 1:3 NLT

By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.

When hell’s accusations are all I hear

Romans 6:18 NLT

Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.

2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT

Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

2 Corinthians 5:21 NKJV

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
