Message Notes

“I was afraid because I was naked so I hid.” —Genesis 3:10

Where we all start:

  • FEAR - SHAME - ISOLATION (HIDING)

Our #1 fear

  • REJECTION! Not being accepted and celebrated as we are and for who we are.

Our #1 need

  • is for UNCONDITIONAL LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE, a sense of belonging, being fully known and completely loved.

“If you knew what I’m really like you wouldn’t like me, so I hide.”

  • You have to come out of hiding somewhere with someone.

My Baptism Into Metal Illness

  • I have some unprocessed, toxic emotions connected to some situations I was pretending didn’t bother me.

  • I was not being honest with myself and with God about some disappointments over the years.

  • I was not being a good steward of my life rhythms and energy.

  • I had abused the BRAIN God gave me!

Why are we doing this series?

We want you to know three things:

  • You’re not alone.

  • There’s help.

  • Growth toward health starts with small steps.

Grace for your race

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. —John 1:14

We are designed to function and grow best in an environment of GRACE + TRUTH + TIME.

  • We are all doing the BEST we can with what we HAVE.
  • If it’s going to be, thank God, it’s not up to me. (Phil 2:13)

Two common (but wrong) attitudes toward change:

  • Just do it!

  • “I can’t help it, that’s just the way I am.”

  • Change is a process not an event.

  • Turn off autopilot. Take some steps in a direction you’ve never gone before.
