Small Group Discussion Questions:
- Read Luke 18:9-14. The Pharisee and the tax collector in Jesus’ parable represent two very different approaches to righteousness. Which character do you find yourself relating to more, and why?
- How does the idea that “Christianity is not about how man should climb up the ladder to find God, but about how God climbed down the ladder to find us” challenge or change your perspective on your relationship with God?
- The sermon discussed how true gospel understanding creates both humility and joy in believers. Can you share an experience where you’ve seen this paradox in action, either in your own life or in others?
The sermon touches on the idea that many people unconsciously approach Christianity as if they need to “get ready” for a battle that’s coming. Have you ever felt this way? How does the message of the gospel address this misconception?
How might understanding the gospel as a “victory already won” vs “a victory we have to win ourselves” change the way we relate to God?
In what ways can we, as individuals and as a church, continually “proclaim the gospel to ourselves and to others” in our daily lives?
