Icebreaker - What’s something difficult you chose to do that was worth it in the end?

Read Psalm 119:65-80

  1. What are some immediate observations that you have from the text or from the sermon?

  2. How does God’s goodness lead Him to afflict us? Is it natural or difficult for you to trust this in your own life?

  3. Tell the group about a time in your life where, looking back, you can now see God’s goodness throughout it.

  4. Why are “thousands of gold and silver pieces” a helpful analogy for how we should treasure God and His Word? What does an honest look at your life reveal about what you treasure in this way?

  5. What would it look like for you to lean into God in the midst of affliction, even if the end is not in sight? Why is this difficult to do?

  6. Talk about a time you saw another Christian loving Jesus in the midst of severe affliction. What effect did this have on you?

  7. Why is Jesus such a treasure that even if all else in your life was lost, you would still have reason to rejoice? How does affliction move us toward understanding this?
