I, the Lord, have spoken!” Jeremiah 9:23-24

CONNECTION GROUP GUIDE
Open it Up:
- What comes into your mind when you think about God?
- How does our understanding of God impact our daily decisions and outlook on the world?
Key Takeaways:
- Theology is the study of God, but it’s not just about knowing facts—it’s about knowing God personally and how that knowledge changes our lives.
- Everyone is a theologian because everyone has beliefs about God. The goal is to be a good theologian with a solid understanding.
- Studying theology helps us know God better, avoid being misled, defeat doubts, and share our faith effectively.
Discussion Questions:
- What we believe about God will affect what we believe about everything else. How have you seen this play out in your own life or in others’ lives?
- Read Jeremiah 9:23-24. What does this passage say about the importance of knowing God? How does this challenge or encourage you?
- There are many misconceptions about God (e.g., God as a genie, God as just “good vibes”). What other misconceptions about God have you heard? How can good theology fix these?
- What does it mean to ‘correctly handle the word of truth’ (2 Timothy 2:15) in today’s world? How can we ensure we’re interpreting Scripture accurately?
- What are some ways a solid theological foundation can prepare us to share our faith more effectively with others? Consider the example given in the sermon about comforting a grieving coworker.
- Why is it important to study theology in community instead of individually? How might this approach enhance our understanding and application of God’s truth?
Practical Applications:
- Commit to attending the entire “God-ology” sermon series and discussing it in your Connection Group.
- Choose one aspect of God’s character you’d like to understand better. Spend time this week studying Bible verses related to that attribute.
- Start a “theology journal” where you write down questions, insights, and how theological truths are impacting your daily life.
- Pray daily for God to open your eyes to “wonderful things in [His] law” (Psalm 119:18) as you study theology.
Closing Prayer:
- Thank God for revealing Himself to us through His Word. Ask for His help in understanding theological truths, applying them to our lives, and sharing them with others. Pray for a deepening relationship with God as we study who He is.
