Questions:

  1. What are your feelings regarding promises made—promises made either by you or by others? What feelings do you have regarding promises God has made to you?

  2. What are some of the promises that God has made to us? How do those promises shape our lives?

  3. There are some things that are mysteries to us (like the Triune nature of God). One of those is how God’s sovereignty and human responsibility are both clearly taught in the Bible. What does Romans 9 teach us about God’s sovereignty, election and Israel? What is it important to remember that this is not the only passage in the Bible that deals with this subject?

  4. What assurance does God’s sovereignty over all things gives us?

  5. In Romans 9:16, God is described by Paul as the One who shows mercy. How would you define “mercy?” How does this section highlight God’s mercy to us?

  6. Where have you experienced God’s mercy in your own life? Upon what was that mercy based? How does that influence your living today?

  7. Reading Romans 9:17 further, what was the reason that God gave for raising up Pharaoh? How was that manifested? In what ways does God want to use you to proclaim His name in all the earth?
