
WATER BAPTISM
1. THE WORD BAPTIZE MEANS TO BE DIP UNDER WATER.
- Every baptism in the Bible was perform by dipping or fully immersing the person in water.
Matthew 3: 16, “After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water.”
Acts 8: 38-39, “… and they went down into the water, and Philip baptizedhim. When they came up out of the water…”
2. IT ILLUSTRATES JESUS’ BURIAL AND RESURRECTION.
- 1 Corinthians 15: 3-4, “Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day.”
- Colossians 2:12, “For when you were baptized, you were buried withChrist, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.”
3. IT ILLUSTRATES OUR NEW LIFE AS CHRISTIANS.
- Baptism does not make you a believer. It shows that you already believe. Baptism does not “save” you, only your faith in Jesus does that.
Ephesians 2:8-9, God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.
- Baptism is like a wedding ring, it’s the outward symbol of the commitment
you make in your heart.
Romans 6:4, For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
4. WHO SHOULD BE WATER BAPTIZED?
- Every person who has believed in Jesus.
Acts 2:41, Those who believed what Peter said were baptized and added to the church that day—about 3,000 in all.
Acts 8:12, But now the people believed Philip’s message of Good News concerning the Kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ. As a result, many men and women were baptized.
Acts 8:13, Then Simon himself believed and was baptized.
