Discussion Questions – Creed: Week 2

Getting to Know Me Questions:
1. Think of your favorite story (book, movie etc) Who is a character you wish was never there
or wondered why they were or were not in the story in a certain way?

2. Think back to Kindergarten what is a song/saying you remember that helped you learn
colors, states, words, letters, feelings, people etc? Can you sing/say it still?

Into the Bible Questions:

* What’s something from this week’s teaching that you learned, that stood out, interesting
etc?

READ: Matthew 16:13-16
* The question we need to answer for ourselves is “Who is Jesus/What do you believe in
Jesus?”

* Recite the Apostles Creed together (See below)
* What has been the thing about Jesus that you have always wrestled with? How has that
determined your faith/life?

* How would you define “Sin”? What have you been taught about Sin? Big or small etc?

* The word used for “Sin” the most in the New Testament means “To miss the mark” or to
“stray from the path we are meant to be on”.

* When we read that definition, what do you think or feel?

READ: Matthew 8:23-27
* What words or ideas from this story stick out to you?

READ: John 8:12
Reflect: Where is your light with Jesus at right now? Why? If you’re comfortable, share
with your group/friends.

Application:
* Find and listen to the song “Creed” by Rich Mullins
* Maybe this week you play this song several times (another good version is by Third Day
and Brandon Heath)
, let the words sink in and maybe you start to echo those words… “I
believe it!”

Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our
Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the
Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

“Creed” By: Rich Mullins
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of
Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten Son,
our Lord
He was conceived by the Holy Spirit
Born of the virgin Mary
Suffered under Pontius Pilate
He was crucified and dead and buried
And I believe what I believe is what makes
me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the
invention of any man

I believe that He who suffered was
crucified, buried, and dead
He descended into hell and on the third
day, rose again
He ascended into Heaven where He sits at
God's mighty right hand
I believe that He's returning
To judge the quick and the dead of the
sons of men
And I believe what I believe is what makes
me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the
invention of any man
I believe it…
I believe in God the Father
Almighty Maker of Heaven and Maker of
Earth
And in Jesus Christ His only begotten
Son, our Lord
I believe in the Holy Spirit
One Holy Church
The communion of Saints
The forgiveness of sin
I believe in the resurrection
I believe in a life that never ends
And I believe what I believe
Is what makes me what I am
I did not make it, no it is making me
I did not make it, no it is making me
I said I did not make it, no it is making me
It is the very truth of God and not the
invention of any man
I believe it…
