Icebreaker:
Do you have a dating horror story?
Discussion:
1. What does it mean to you to be truly “seen” by someone? What are ways you know that another person really gets you?
2. Scotty said that we can know that Jesus understands our problems because he experienced them also. Do you really believe that Jesus experienced struggles like yours? Why or why not?
3. When Jesus was on the cross, he said, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” What would it have been like for him to experience a complete separation from God?
4. Do you ever feel forsaken by God? What are some things that make you feel distant from God?
5. David was described as a man after God’s own heart. He wrote:
My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me,
so far from my cries of anguish?
My God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer,
by night, but I find no rest. – Psalm 22:1-2
What does this teach us about feeling abandoned by God?
6. How can complaining to God change your situation?
7. Are you feeling seen by God right now? Why or why not? This is a good time to share a burden with the people in your group.
