A Suitable Helper

Relationships are key part of living by faith. We are not saved by our works but by our relationship with Jesus and reconciled to God. By faith, we are grafted into the family of God.

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

[19] Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. —Genesis 2:18-19 NIV

Just like other humankind the animals and all birds were made from dirt. These animals were all named by man.

20] So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. —Genesis 2:20 NIV

Although he made names for them he needed a counterpart to help him care for the things God give him dominion over.

So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and then closed up the place with flesh. [22] Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. [23] The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.” —Genesis 2:21-23 NIV

Woman was made not from dirt but from man. To be his counterpart and complimentary equal.

[24] That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.

In order for them to become one they must both seek Christ —Genesis 2:24 NIV

Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
—Genesis 2:25 NIV

Why did Adam and wife not have shame?

What is there proximately to their creator?

Jesus died to bring us back into a right relationship with God. Through Christ’s death we have been RECONCILED to God.

For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life.
—Romans 5:10 ESV

What must we do to be reconciled to one another?

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. —Genesis 1:26-27 ESV
