Made New Part 3 - God of Restoration

April 21, 2024

  • The environment of God’s Kingdom is an environment of renewal.

1 The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He

my soul. —Psalm 23:1-3

for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.” —Luke 19:10

  • Save - save, heal, deliver, make .
  • Lost = ruined or destroyed.

1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord, saying: 2 “Arise and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause you to hear My words.” 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and there he was, making something at the wheel. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter; so he made it again into another vessel, as it seemed good to the potter to make.
5 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: 6 “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel! —Jeremiah 18:1-6

  • Through the Holy Spirit, we are not just born again, but

    again.

  • Marred = decayed, ruined, destroyed, spoiled.

  • The word for “potter” is to form or squeeze into

    .

  • Jesus, was broken that we might be made whole. Jesus was marred so we could be

    (Isaiah 52:14)

1. What if the story with the “marring” of the clay?

  • I ask that because sometimes we are stuck halfway through Jeremiah 18:4 - our gives us away (victim mentality).

2. The Potter removed the and continued working.

3. The Potter made it again as it seemed to Him.

  • All spiritual formation is formation.
  • The world is squeezing us into it’s shape, but God is calling us to to His formation.

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. —Romans 12:2

  • The place of surrender is a daily process called . It’s the posture in which I receive FORMATION.

Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand. —Isaiah 64:8

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. —Ephesians 2:8-10

  • use the language of faith and embrace the language of responsibility.
  • The dialect of blame and excuses begins to sound like a foreign language.
